	Great Dane 23 18 months to Adult and Mature

	With 80% muscle mass, the Great Dane has energy needs 50% higher than other dogs in its class. Meanwhile, its short coat provides little insulation against the cold. The kibble shape, size and texture limit the food intake rate, encouraging chewing and promoting tooth and mouth hygiene. We recommend that the daily ration be given in at least 2 meals in order to reduce the risks of gastric dilatation-volvulus.

	The length of the Great Dane’s colon increases transit time and intestinal fermentations, which result in the production of very wet stools. Furthermore, its deep thoracic cage is an additional risk factor for dilatation-torsion of the stomach, a problem which is common in giant breed dogs. Eating too fast (linked to kibble size) is also an aggravating factor.
